Screenwriter's Checklist
Before you send your baby into the cold light of the industry, here’s some free advice to help make sure you’re both ready:
- Is my screenplay in proper format?
- Does my protagonist have strong, clear goals and motivations?
- Does every scene build and turn on a dramatic beat?
- Does every act build to a satisfying climax?
- Does my ending answer the central dramatic question of the film?
- Does every scene crackle with conflict?
- Have I tested my protagonist to the limits of his or her character?
- Is my dialogue loaded with subtext and meaning?
- Do my supporting characters have their own voices and motivations?
- Does my story provide a reader with insight into my characters and their world?
If you answered “yes” to all ten, congratulations and best of luck!
